Joey McCarthy, a lifelong Lamar County resident, veteran law enforcement officer, and father of two sons who serve as first responders, has announced his candidacy for Justice of the Peace, Precinct 5-2, subject to the Republican primary.

“I’ve spent my life serving the people of Lamar County, and I believe experience matters,” McCarthy said. “As Justice of the Peace, I will bring steady leadership, fairness, and a strong work ethic to ensure every individual is treated with respect and integrity.”

McCarthy brings decades of public service experience, both professionally and through volunteer work. His background includes preparing budgets and tax rates, writing grants, fundraising for charities, organizing community events, and working with adults and juveniles in a variety of settings.

He has dedicated more than 32 years to law enforcement and holds a Master Peace Officer certification. McCarthy currently serves as an investigator with the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office, where he continues to work directly with residents across the county.

In addition to his law enforcement career, McCarthy has served on the Reno City Council for 16 years, including eight years as Reno Mayor Pro-Tem. His community involvement also includes service with Lamar County Meals on Wheels, Reno Fire and Rescue, Student Crime Stoppers, Adult Crime Stoppers, Breakfast Optimist, and the Red River Valley Fair Association.

McCarthy says his lifelong commitment to Lamar County, combined with his hands-on leadership experience, has prepared him to serve the community effectively as Justice of the Peace.
