USDA Confirms No New SNAP Benefits Issued November 1 Amid Ongoing Government Shutdown

After weeks of warnings, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced on Monday that no new Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits will be issued on November 1, due to the ongoing federal government shutdown.

According to a notice posted on the USDA website, the agency stated that funding for SNAP — often referred to as the food stamp program — has run out amid the budget impasse in Congress. The government has been shut down since October 1, following a failure by lawmakers to agree on spending measures for the 2026 fiscal year.

While political leaders continue to debate over budget priorities, the USDA confirmed that EBT cards will remain functional in November for any unused benefits that were previously issued. Those funds will continue to roll over and remain available until spent.

In the meantime, families who rely on SNAP are urged to contact local food banks, churches, and community organizations for assistance while federal benefits are paused.

For residents in Paris and Lamar County, resources such as the Downtown Food Pantry, Hope Center of Texarkana, and other regional hunger relief programs may be able to help bridge the gap during this period.
