The Red River County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man wanted for First-Degree Rape out of Pontotoc County, Oklahoma, following a coordinated effort with federal authorities.
Acting on a tip from the U.S. Marshals Service, the RRCSO Street Crimes Unit, led by Lt. Freddy Booker, launched an investigation on Tuesday, Oct. 14. Deputies located Cleofas Mendez at a residence in the Clarksville area, where he was taken into custody without incident.
Mendez had reportedly been evading law enforcement for over five years before his arrest this week. He is currently being held in the Red River County Jail on an outstanding warrant from Oklahoma.
In a statement, the Red River County Sheriff’s Office emphasized its commitment to public safety, saying:
“The Red River County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to working alongside local, state, and federal agencies to ensure public safety and bring fugitives to justice.”
Mendez will remain in custody pending extradition proceedings.
All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
