Reno Opens New All-Inclusive Playground at Kiwanis Park

Reno city leaders and residents gathered on Saturday to celebrate the grand opening and ribbon cutting of the city’s brand-new All-Inclusive Playground at Reno Kiwanis Park.

“This playground is more than swings and slides — it’s a place where every child can play, laugh, and grow together,” the Reno Parks and Trail Committee shared. “We are deeply grateful to everyone who made this dream possible.”

The idea for the playground was first sparked in 2015, when Council Member Amanda Willows read about a similar project in Round Rock, Texas. Inspired by the vision of a space where children of all abilities could play side by side, she began pursuing funding. After eight years of persistence, Willows secured a Texas Parks and Wildlife grant in 2023, setting the project in motion.

On September 13, 2025, that vision became a reality. The opening was a milestone not only for city officials but for the entire Reno community.

Willows praised the many hands that brought the project to life: the Reno Parks and Trail Committee, both past and present, for championing the effort; city staff for their tireless work; and the Reno City Council for its leadership and support.

Key partners — including Charles Edwards of GrantWorks, Tyler Creamer, Kevin Whitley, Hayter Engineering, and Texas Parks and Wildlife — contributed their expertise and dedication to turn plans into reality.

“And of course, our community,” the committee added. “Your generosity, encouragement, and excitement have been the heartbeat of this project. This playground belongs to all of us. Seeing the smiles, laughter, and joy as the first children played on Saturday reminded us why this matters so much. Together, we’ve created something truly special for generations to come.”
