Paris Junior High School began its 2025–2026 Career and Technical Education (CTE) celebration with a sight students won’t soon forget — a colorful hot air balloon rising into the morning sky.

On Wednesday, Principal Kristi Callihan and instructional coach Seanda Gilbert climbed into the basket, while hundreds of students counted down together from ten. As the balloon lifted off, cheers filled the campus, perfectly capturing the theme of the day: “Dare to Dream.”

The message, created by Bridget Crain for the school’s Hospitality & Tourism program, encouraged students to set bold goals and chase their passions — no matter how high they may seem.

The balloon itself was prepared by Paris natives Amie and Josh Cato, seasoned balloonists who, along with volunteers, gave students a behind-the-scenes look at the fascinating process of inflating and launching a hot air balloon. From the hiss of the burners to the billowing fabric filling with hot air, the demonstration was a hands-on lesson in science, teamwork, and inspiration.

As the balloon floated upward into the crisp blue sky, many students stood in awe, seeing not just a balloon — but a powerful symbol of limitless possibility. The event wasn’t just a celebration; it was a living reminder that with vision, effort, and courage, dreams can truly take flight. 🚀
